A Quick Guide to Making Google Slides Vertical

As you might have already noticed, Google Slides are horizontal by default. This is because it’s more convenient to present horizontal slides on a PC. Despite this, it’s still very easy to change slide orientation in google slides!

But before we get started, here are common uses of Vertical Google Slides:

  • You want to print each slide using the full page of an A4 piece of paper
  • You want to make the powerpoint look better on mobile / smartphones
  • You want to create a more unique, engaging, or interactive presentation
  • You want to maximize a widescreen monitor by placing vertical layout presentations on the side
  • You need extra vertical space to fit portrait images, tall infographics, posters, etc.
  • You want to create banner posts for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.

Without further ado, here is how to turn Google Slides vertical.

How to Make Google Slides Vertical

Step 1: Open the Page Setup Dialog Box

The first step is to open the Page Setup dialog box. To do this, click on the File menu, and select Page Setup.

Step 2: Choose Custom from the Drop-Down Menu

From here, choose “Custom” from the list of options in the drop-down menu. In the custom slide size dialog box, enter the specific dimensions for your vertical slide. You can change the unit of measurement to inches (in), centimeters (cm), points (pts), or pixels (px).

Step 3: Input the slide dimensions

To turn your slide to portrait mode, make sure to keep the 2nd value higher, since standard dimensions are length x height.

Standard sizes and aspect ratio of landscape orientations commonly used by platforms (in pixels):

1080 x 1920 pixels | 9:15 ratio (most common)

1080 x 1350 pixels | 4:5 ratio

1000 x 1500 pixels | 2:3 ratio

1000 x 2100 pixels | 1:2 ratio

You can also use your custom orientation ratios depending on your needs.

Step 4: Apply the changes

Save your slide design by clicking on “Apply”. This changes the dimensions of all slides within the powerpoint. Currently, you cannot apply the dimensions changes to only specific pages.
